Tiger With an average weight of around 600 pounds (272 kg) and a length of up to 10 feet (3 meters), tigers are the world’s largest cats. The largest tiger on record weighed 932 pounds (423 kg)!! 10. Spotted Hyena Spotted hyenas are both hunters and scavengers who leave practically nothing behind after eating, which is perhaps why they have stronger jaws than lions and tigers. Their bite force of 1,100 pounds per square inch helps them efficiently kill targeted prey and shred the leftovers of another predator’s meal, ensuring nothing goes to waste. Especially not the bones. 9. Polar Bear Large bears, including grizzlies, brown bears, and polar bears, all possess similarly strong bites of around 1,200 pounds per square inch. While each species is ferocious in its own right, polar bears are arguably the most fearsome. These Arctic beasts are hypercarnivores, meaning they dine almost exclusively on meat. 8. Grizzly Bear The North American grizzly bear is a subspecies of the brown bear and one of the largest and strongest mammals on Earth. With a bite force of 1,200 pounds per square inch, a grizzly can easily destroy a bowling ball or even cast iron, using teeth that are designed for tearing both plants and animals into bite-sized pieces. 7. Gorilla Gorillas are the world’s largest primates, with some species reaching between four and six feet (1.2-1.8 meters) tall and weighing up to 485 pounds (220 kg). 6. Bull Shark A 2012 study led by researcher Maria Habegger of the University of South Florida measured the bite force of 13 sharks and shark-like fishes. The findings revealed that in terms of its bodily proportions, a bull shark outbites some of the ocean’s most ferocious animals, including other sharks. 5. Jaguar Jaguars have the strongest bite out of all the big cats relative to their size, with a force of around 1,500 pounds per square inch. In a 2012 study, University of South Carolina researcher Adam Hartsone-Rose and his colleagues determined that while a jaguar’s bite is only three-quarters as strong as that of a tiger, the animal’s bite force is exceptionally powerful in proportion to its considerably smaller body. 4. Hippopotamus While the hippopotamus may seem like a gentle giant, it’s capable of causing great damage. In fact, many people recognize it as Africa’s deadliest mammal to humans, mainly because of its alarmingly massive mouth. 3. American Alligator At a length of up to 15 feet (4.5 meters) and a weight of up to 1,000 pounds (454 kg), it’s North America’s largest reptile. Its bite force of 2,125 pounds per square inch is strong enough to lift a small truck, according to a 2002 study. 2. Saltwater Crocodile A 2012 study led by paleobiologist Greg Erickson, who conducted the experiment on the American alligator’s bite that I told you about, revealed that saltwater crocodiles have the strongest proven bite force of all living creatures. 1. Great White Shark It’s possible, but not proven, that the great white shark has a greater bite force than the saltwater crocodile, according to research conducted in 2008 by Steven Wroe of the University of New England in Australia. #strongest #animals #creatures #bite #force #wildlife #teeth #toughest #originsexplained #top10
