Goldcrest This itty-bitty bird can be found throughout much of Europe and it is one of the smallest birds out there. It is the smallest bird in Britain and the 2nd smallest in Europe after the similar firecrest birdie. Their population extends across to Asia, including the Himalayas and Japan. 12. Cuban Tody This little bird gives hummingbirds a run for their money! They are brightly colored like gems that can fit into the palm of your hand. They only weigh about 6 grams and have a bright iridescent green upper body and wings with a red throat and pink at the top of their legs. 11. Bearded Reedling Also known as the bearded tit, it is neither bearded nor a tit. It actually looks like it has more of a moustache and might be more closely related to the lark. It is a small orange- brown bird, and males are the ones with the moustache and a grey head. Females don’t have a moustache, makes sense. It is a wetland species, breeding in large reed beds by lakes or swamps all throughout temperate Europe and central Asia. 10. Fairy Wren Fairy-wrens are famous in Australia for their practically electric coloring! Like their name suggests they are like bright, glittery fairies flying around! These beautiful birds are much loved for their quirky personalities and are often found in gardens all over the continent. They are a cooperative breeding species and will defend their territory year-round. 9. Long-Tailed Tit The long tailed tit is often called the flying lollipop with its tiny round body, fluffy feathers and long thin tail. They are a common bird found throughout Europe, mostly in woodland and shrubby areas, parks, and gardens. They make a lot of noise, chirping away in flocks so you will know if they are there. It helps them keep in touch with each other as they move through the trees. 8. Pygmy Falcon https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/8516955/fullscreen The Pygmy falcon is the smallest raptor in Africa. They are super cute, and super fierce! Literally! (I don’t mean their style!). They are only about 7.5 inches long max (20 cm) which is just as long as a pencil!! But with beautiful gray, white and brown fluffy feathers. 7. Eurasian Hoopoe The Hoopoe has been admired by us humans for a very long time! They were sacred to the ancient Egyptians and Minoans, and one was a special messenger for King Solomon. The Hoopoe was also named the wisest bird in the world by a Persian Poet in 1177 as well as a symbol of virtue. They have been admired for centuries not only due to their good looks, but also because they eat many creatures we consider pests. 6. Black-Capped Chickadee This little chickadee has a tiny body and is as cute as its name! It looks almost fluffy with a big head, and grey, white, and black coloring. The chickadee’s tiny, black eyes are shrouded by its black cap of feathers, hence its name. 5. Atlantic Puffin The Atlantic puffin (Fratercula arctica) is the only puffin native to the Atlantic Ocean. It tends to be solitary during the autumn and winter, which it spends in the open ocean, and breeds in colonies during the summer on the rocky and sparsely vegetated shores of northern countries. 4. Northern Saw-Whet Owl This owl might just be the cutest owl out there! These are small owls, roughly the size of a robin, measuring 7.1 to 8.3 inches (18-21 cm) long, but has a much bigger wingspan, ranging from 16-and-a-half to 18.9 inches (42-48 cm). 3. Bee Hummingbird A list about the world’s cutest birds wouldn’t be complete without the smallest species on Earth, the bee hummingbird (Mellisuga helenae). It’s endemic to Cuba, meaning you’ll probably have to travel there to see one up-close. You’re most likely to spot a bee hummingbird on the edge of a forest, among vines and flowering plants, but you have to look close to see it, because it’s so small. 2. Adélie Penguin Today’s award for the cutest bird of the world’s southernmost latitudes goes to the Adélie penguin (Pygoscelis adeliae), a carnivorous Antarctic species that breeds in colonies numbering as many as several thousand. 1. Blue-Footed Booby The blue-footed booby (Sula nebouxii) has a silly, but appropriate name, at least when it comes to the male’s conspicuously blue feet, which the bird uses for performing a fancy mating dance to attract females. The bluer the male’s feet, the more attractive he is to females! #birds #cuteanimals #originsexplained
