ALEKSANDR KOVALEV If you get lost in the Siberian taiga, your chances of survival are minimal. Between the frigid temperatures and the presence of bears, wolves, and tigers, it’s unlikely that you’d emerge unscathed after being lost for even a short time. I mean, it’s cold out there!! Aleksandr Kovalev is living proof of the occasional exception. 6. LISA THERIS On August 12, 2017, Lisa Theris, a 25-year-old legally blind woman who had been missing for nearly a month, emerged from the woods and stumbled onto the side of Highway 82 in Midway, Alabama. She was naked and covered in sores, bug bites, and poison ivy rash. 5. BARBARA AND LA’MYRA BRILEY The holidays are all about family, and when someone doesn’t show up to a gathering as expected, it can’t mean anything good. For Barbara And La’Myra Briley, a wrong turn almost resulted in tragedy. 4. LIANG SHENG YUEH In April 2017, a pair of Taiwanese hikers were found in the Nepali Himalayas after they had gone missing seven weeks before. Unfortunately, only one of them was alive. Three days before rescuers arrived, 19-year-old Liu Chen-chun had lost her battle against the elements. However, her boyfriend, Liang Sheng Yueh, lived through the ordeal, and was airlifted to a hospital in Kathmandu to begin his recovery. 3. SHANNON LEAH FRASER On September 21, 2014, 30-year-old Shannon Leah Fraser visited the Golden Hole swimming spot in Queensland, Australia. As Fraser and her partner, Heath Cassidy, made their way toward their destination, she somehow became separated from him and disappeared into the rainforest. She had no supplies with her and was wearing nothing but leggings, sandals, and a shirt. After wandering through the bush for three hours in search of Shannon, Heath called the police to report her missing. 2. KEITH PARKINS Two-year-old Keith Parkins disappeared from his grandfather’s ranch in Rutter, Oregon in 1952. He was only gone for a day and a night, but being a toddler, there was a likely chance that he hadn’t survived. Little Keith was found eight miles from the ranch, unconscious and lying face-down in the snow. His jacket had been removed and his clothing was ripped. 1. ANDREW GASKELL In late 2016, a young man named Andrew Gaskell was rescued from Mulu National Park in the Sarawak region of the Malaysian Borneo after spending several weeks lost and alone in the wilderness. Rescuers reported that he was malnourished and his legs were covered in leeches, but he was conscious and able to communicate. The Australian man was airlifted to safety and received medical treatment, but was in surprisingly good condition, all things considered.
