Let’s get rollin! 10 School of Manatees Alright folks up first on today’s list we have something that – I’m not afraid to admit – would’ve scared me half to death. Check this out. This couple is paddling along an unknown river. You know, just trying to enjoy a little vacation time in the middle of their busy and hectic schedules. In the middle of their calming adventure they were forced to stop, and for a pretty unexpected reason. A school of manatees are passing by underneath them. These massive animals are mostly docile, and are often called sea – cows, because of their large, yet unassuming nature. One sad fact about these big boys and girls is that due to humans blocking natural springs along the coastline that manatees flock too, along with human involvement being a reason why sea grass is disappearing all around the world – manatees are considered an endangered species. These large aquatic animals quote ‘move like a dolphin in slow motion’, according to Patrick Rose, who’s an aquatic biologist and the director of the Save the Manatee Club. 9 The Fin Whale Alright moving into our second clip for today, check this one out. How many of you out there have heard of the fin whale? Well, if you haven’t, don’t worry about it – neither had I before I started doing my research. But the fin whale is amazing! And here’s just a couple reasons why. For starters, you probably didn’t know that the second largest animal in the world is indeed the fin whale! Yeah, it comes second only to the blue whale – which we actually just talked about in a recent video! Unfortunately, however, the fin whale is also considered to be an endangered species, because of worldwide whaling that may – or may not be – the most legal thing to do in the world. Another more fun fact about this big group is that the females of this species are actually a little larger than the males, with the guys coming in at an average length of 62 meters – while their lovely lady counterparts are usually around 65 meters. 8 The Japanese Spider Crab Alright guys and gals let’s keep it moving. Up next we have one of the ugliest, creepiest, weirdest – do all those words mean the same thing? Anyway – creatures found anywhere in the water – meet the Japanese spider crab. For starters, this guy can reach up to 5.5 meters – or 18 feet – from claw to claw. That makes it the biggest crab in the world. But all that length doesn’t equate to ferociousness with this gentle giant, as your much more likely to scare a Japanese Spider Crab away if you stumble upon one while doing a little deep-sea diving. Still that doesn’t take away from how truly beautiful – albeit, slight scary – these things look! So, lemme ask you something, after seeing all that – who’s in the mood for some crab legs? 7 The Biggest Opah Ever Caught Keeping things moving right along here today, check out this next story. So, there’s a rumor going around on the internet that a very, very, VERY large animal was caught from the water – and while the fisherman were deciding whether or not to throw the large fish back in the water, it died… angering scientists who wanted to study it around the world. This thing right here what’s only known as a rare giant Opah. Now the reports are that this fish weighed close to 1.2 tons – which, for those of you keeping count at home – is absolutely monstrous! Anyway, after these fisherman in Russia allowed the massive fish to die, they still weren’t sure what to do with it’s body. You can’t just throw a 2000 plus pound dead fish back into the water, right? Right. So – they did what they considered to be the next best thing. They fed it to the bears!
