Let’s get rollin! 10 The Jeanette DePalma Case Alright up first on today’s list is an interesting and mysterious case that comes from the eastern state of New Jersey. Springfield, New Jersey to be exact – and the story starts all the way back in 1972, when one day a family dog came home with a badly decomposed human arm. The family was mortified, and they of course contacted the local authorities immediately – which resulted a policy search that led to the discovery of the lifeless body of Jeanette DePalmer, a teenager who had gone missing more than a month and a half prior to the discovery. An immediate reason for demise could not be established, although the hill that DePalmer was found on was locally known as a place of gathering for a quote ‘coven of witches’, or what some locals called Satanists. Police also believe that the missing teen was victim of human sacrifice, however the body was so badly decomposed that an official cause of death was never determined. 9 Water on an Asteroid Alright moving right along – this next topic is pretty amazing! And comes from an article written on December 13th, 2018. So NASA has confirmed that the OSIRIS-Rex mission has made a remarkable discovery – there’s water floating around on an asteroid up in space. Well maybe not actual water, but what they found on December 2nd on an asteroid called Bennu is hydrated minerals on the surface, which is in fact – for those keeping track – evidence of water on this great big ol’ rock on December 10th. Scientists say that while there is no direct evidence that there is any liquid water either on the surface or beneath it, they do believe however that the parent asteroid of this one – that is, the larger piece of space rock that Bennu broke away from – does, or at least did, have liquid water on it. This is remarkable, because as we all know – water is the most essential building component for life. 8 The Original Electric Car Was Shut Down Alright moving things right along – let’s talk about an invention that’s gaining some real steam right now, that actually was almost shut down completely almost 20 years ago! The EV1, produced by General Motors, was set to make a big splash in the late 90s. In fact, at least 800 of them had been up for lease before he entire idea because of some tests that didn’t necessarily produce the best results. First of all, consumers were skeptical over the range that these vehicles were able to travel, as some joked that it would only have enough power to drive you to the end of your driveway. That’s one theory, and I have to be honest – if the point of having a car is to get places far away from you, if the car you choose can’t get you there then that is a huge problem, of course. But a lot of people believe that the real reason this idea was canned by GM as due to pressure from the oil companies, who in fact is the one organization set to lose the most if and when electric cars really do take off. 7 In the Sky Let’s keep things moving along right here - where this video has stumped some of the smartest people on the planet. Near the end of 2017 NASA employees and other astronomers were completely shocked when they saw this – an oddly shaped object floating through the sky. This large – what looks to be UFO – was quickly just dubbed an interstellar object, which is a fancy way of saying that they don’t really know what it is. The one thing that they do know is that the way this thing is shaped, it is primed for traveling through space! Does that mean this was constructed?
