No I’m not talking about Raiden from the Mortal Kombat video game series – even though he was one of my favorite characters – I’m talking about real, actual teleportation on earth - in real life? Well if you didn’t know the ability for us to move physical objects from one place to another utilizing this infamous ability is closer than you may think. A lot closer. Recently in China developers were able to teleport properties of light particles called photons from the ground here on earth up and out to outer space. The combination of mirrors and lasers is considered a huge success in quantum physics, and potentially could greatly impact how information is transported right here on earth. 9 Another Species of Human? For our entire lives we’ve been led to believe that modern day man first evolved around 100,000 years ago, right? Well at least that’s what I can remember from my grade school days, even though that seems like it what was about 40 or 50 years ago… anyway, recently there was a discovery made proving that there in fact was a human species that pre-dated modern man – called the homo naledi. The deep underground cave in South Africa that housed the finding was excavated in 2015, and many researches have dubbed the site one of the greatest collections of human remains ever found anywhere on earth. This pre-modern species of humans only grew to about 5 feet tall, and their brains were only about the size of a softball. There were more than a few similarities between this newly uncovered group in comparison to humans today. 8 Egg Rocks Let’s break away from things here on earth for a little bit and talk about something recently found out in outer space. We’re on the surface of Mars where the Curiosity Rover recently found, what scientists dubbed as the Egg Rock. Now, don’t get your hopes up – this isn’t an actual egg. If you’re like me after hearing the name of the rock, I immediately started thinking that they’ve actually found life on Mars! Nope! Not yet. Anyway, the egg rock is simply the remnants of a fallen meteor. You see, even though Mars is technically smaller that the earth, it orbits the sun near an asteroid belt – and has far mar encounters with meteors entering its atmosphere than we do here on earth. Also, the atmosphere on mars is much thinner than ours – so it’s more likely that solid pieces of falling rocks from outer space will actually land on the surface of the planet intact. The cool thing here is that the Curiosity Rover has a lot of cool features, including one that allows the machine to pick up physical samples, vaporize them, and then analyze the particles. 7 Ancient Roman Cartoons Who loves a good comic strip? You know, the ones found in your local newspaper? Wait, let’s start back at the beginning… in the times of cellphones, tablets and smart watches - who knows what a newspaper is? Anyway some people believe that the first comic strip ever written was by Richard Felton Outcalt for a comic titled The Yellow Kid that appeared in the Hearst New York American all the way back in 1896. It turns out that those people would be off by about 18 thousand years. Check this out. An ancient roman tomb that was recently uncovered featured hundred of drawn and painted figures – including humans, animals and gods. But the really cool thing about this discovery was that some of the images were equipped with writings – or what some have called speech bubbles, written in Greek letters.
